Inspector Robert Gwynne-Thomas from the Roads Policing Unit of South Wales Police gives advice on the simple checks you should do every time you plan to ride to make sure your bike is in top condition.
PETROL: do you have enough fuel for your ride?
OIL: check the engine oil levels as well as brake and clutch fluid levels and make sure there are no leaks. Ensure that your bike is on a level surface otherwise you may get a false reading
WATER: if you have a water cooled engine, make sure the coolant reservoir is at the correct level
ELECTRICS: are all the lights working properly? Look at the headlights, brake lights and indicators. Make sure the horn works and that instrument warning lights come on and go off
RUBBER: check your tyre pressures and tread depth. Look for wear, cuts and stones or other foreign bodies embedded in the tread
